Into the O zone
Today I drove over to a small once fishing village called Ozona, Fl. to look for some "salty" yachts. Ozona is just north of Dunedin on St. Joseph's Sound on the middle West coast of Florida. The town no longer really does much commercial fishing but supports a cool eclectic mix of funky restaurants, businesses, and shady lanes with quaint (by Florida standards) old cottages and homes. Golf carts are the popular means of transportation around the village. I didn't find anything too "salty" but I did find a very cool craft called a "Gougmaran". I have to believe this name is a combination of Gougeon construction and catamaran? It appears to be an attempt at a "seaworthy" pontoon boat with a head, convertible hard top, and bow boarding ramp/wave deflector. Check out the photos to follow.
